| Abstract | The purpose of this research is to determine and examine the effect of premium income, claims expense, on underwriting results in one of the insurance companies in Indonesia. The dependent variable used in this research is the underwriting result. While the independent variables used are premium income, and claims expenses. The population used in this study is a loss insurance company in Indonesia that has been listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The sample used is the financial statements of PT. Bosowa Asuransi in 2011-2017. The data that was used by the researcher as a tool to conduct this research is secondary data. The model of data analysis performed is multiple linear regression and processed using the SPSS 25 software. The results of multiple linear regression test show that: (1) partially (individual) premium income has a positive and significant or significant effect on the underwriting result. While the cost of claims have a negative and significant effect on the underwriting result; (2) and simultaneously (together) independent variables which are premium income and claims expense affect the dependent variable that is underwriting result in PT. Bosowa Asuransi; (3) as well as on the determination coefficient test of the magnitude of the effect of premium income and claims expense on the underwriting result reaches 100%.
